For Fall/Winter 2011, Marc Jacobs explored the mysterious allure of fashion and fetish. The inexplicable obsession, strictness and discipline, and a play between modesty and provocation. The show’s ultimate and not-so-obscure object of desire was the iconic Lockit bag, created in 1958 and recreated in a myriad guises: this time in the familiar Monogram Canvas.
But it’s not the same classic Monogram Canvas we’ve all seen, owned, and loved. It’s reinterpreted with an ultra-glossy patent finish in line with the collection’s play on extremes of matte and shine. Key elements of the design, such as the padlock from which the Lockit takes its name, are also covered in Monogram canvas, with touches of ivory resin – for the zipper pull, for example – providing a delicate counterpoint. The icon itself reinvented in the glossy and glamorous Monogram Fetish Canvas, but still keeping its charm and timeless silhouette.
